Yum! Brands officially announced that it has terminated its franchise agreement with İş Gıda A.Ş., which owns and operates all KFC and Pizza Hut restaurants in Turkey. The reason given for the decision was İş Gıda’s inability to meet Yum! Brands’ operational standards. This termination decision will affect 283 KFC and 254 Pizza Hut restaurants across Turkey. Here are the details…
KFC and Pizza Hut restaurants in Turkey are closing!
Chris Turner, Chief Financial Officer of Yum! Brands, said, ‘We expect our franchise partners to deliver a high quality experience to our customers. We offered support to resolve the issues prior to termination, but Is Gıda failed to comply with our standards and remain committed to the key provisions of our franchise agreements.’
This termination decision will affect 283 KFC and 254 Pizza Hut restaurants across Turkey. While the restaurants are expected to close at least temporarily, the company will maintain its commitment to Turkish consumers and work to reopen the restaurants, Yum! Brands said in a statement.
For the last two years, İş Gıda was also serving as the main franchise operator of KFC and Pizza Hut restaurants in Germany. However, Yum! took back the franchise rights of the businesses in Germany at the end of 2024 and started to manage this market directly. The company emphasised that the termination process in Turkey will not affect its German operations.
Yum! Brands, while stating that the recent sales of restaurants in Turkey remained below the world average, announced that the closures will not have a serious financial impact on its global operations as of 2025. The company also announced that they plan to return with a new partnership in the future, saying, ‘We look forward to serving our customers in the Turkish market in the future.’
