As electric cars continue to become more widespread, charging technologies are advancing. Today, urban travel is possible with just an hour of charging. However, with the increase in charging speeds for electric cars, a surge in usage is expected. Lotus is setting a new record in charging speed with its Emeya model.
Lotus Emeya Travels 320 km in Just 14 Minutes
The Lotus Emeya has set a new standard in electric vehicle charging speeds. According to the research, it reached 80% battery capacity from 10% in just 14 minutes. This makes it the fastest charging electric car to date.
Tests conducted by an electric vehicle consulting firm revealed that the Emeya can handle a charging power of 402kW. During the 10-80% charging level, it maintained a charging rate of 331kW. This indicates that the Emeya can cover approximately 320 km with just a 10-minute charge.
Connected to a 400kW DC fast charger, the Emeya appears to be unrivaled in this area. According to the tests, the Xpeng G9, which reaches a charging speed of 320kW, is in second place. Other models supporting fast charging, such as the Porsche Taycan, can reach 80% in 16 minutes with 350kW chargers.
Lotus stated that it has developed an 800-volt battery platform for the Emeya. It also mentioned that it has built battery thermal management specifically for the hypercar. The Emeya’s performance also showcases the pinnacle of current electric vehicle technology.
As 350kW and higher fast charging networks continue to expand, charging issues for electric cars will be eliminated. Lotus is also developing 450kW chargers to fully utilize the Emeya’s potential.
