Former Rockstar North director Obbe Vermeij has fueled speculation that GTA 6’s release date may be delayed. Vermeij shared his predictions about the new game, citing what happened during the development process of GTA 4 as an example.
Even Rockstar may not know the GTA 6 release date
GTA 4, released in 2008, was delayed just months before its release date. Former Rockstar North director Obbe Vermeij, who was part of the game staff, spoke about the release of GTA 6, citing this as an example. According to Vermeij, Rockstar will wait until May to decide whether GTA 6 will be released.
The complexity of open-world games can lead to unexpected technical issues. Vermeij reminded us that even four months before GTA 4’s release date, it was unclear whether the game would be ready in time. Therefore, the future of GTA 6 seems uncertain until next May.
A possible delay for the game could have a huge impact on the industry. However, Vermeij also emphasized that Rockstar will not hesitate to delay the game in order not to compromise on game quality. He said the company is aware that it is developing a game that will “mark at least 10 years”.
“GTA 6 will sell for more than 10 years and there is no competition to worry about. He won’t release the game until he’s 100 percent happy. It doesn’t matter what the trailer says.”
Rockstar Games released the first trailer for GTA 6 in December 2023 and announced that the game would be released in 2025.
