Russia, which wants to be independent in the field of technology, is preparing to compete with the giants of the gaming world. In this context, a new game console is being developed under the leadership of President Putin. What will the Russian game console developed with the local operating system and processor offer?
Domestic gaming console from Russia: Elbrus processor device on the way
Russian State Duma representative Anton Gorelkin shared new information about the domestic game console. According to Gorelkin, the console will be powered by the Elbrus-8C processor produced by Russia. In this context, a significant part of the electronics will also be produced in Russia.
The operating system of the console has not been decided yet. However, Aurora and ALT Linux options are being considered. The Skolkovo Foundation, which is tasked with creating the basic concept and business model of the console, is aware of market realities. In this context, it is not possible to compete with PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series.
“The Russian console is not just for adapting a hundred old games and reporting that President Putin’s order has been fulfilled. The main goal of this platform should be to support and popularize domestic video game products and bring them to audiences beyond PC and mobile gaming.”
The effort to develop a domestic game console is part of Russia’s strategy to reduce its dependence on foreign technology and develop its own technology sector. The selection of the Elbrus processor and the Aurora and ALT Linux operating systems will contribute to the console’s development.
