With the development of artificial intelligence, the danger of cyber fraud has increased. New research shows that the number of infected devices has grown by more than 600 percent in recent years. In fact, more than 10 million devices were infected with data-stealing malware in 2023 alone.
Data-stealing malware grew 600 percent in 3 years
A new report by cybersecurity firm Kaspersky has revealed that data-stealing malware has increased by 600 percent in the last three years. Accordingly, Kaspersky stated that the internet is becoming increasingly dangerous.
According to the report, more than 10 million devices have been infected with malware designed to steal login credentials. This data for 2023 alone represents a 643 percent increase compared to levels just three years ago.
Malware can collect around 50 different login credentials from each device it infects. Stolen credentials include accounts such as banking apps, crypto wallets, email and social media profiles.
Kaspersky estimates that the total number of devices affected by data theft will reach 16 million in 2023. Once stolen, the data is thought to be sold on hacking forums and the dark web. Hackers can sell stolen credentials for 10 thousand dollars, depending on the type of account.
The report revealed that more than 443,000 websites worldwide have had accounts circulating on the dark web in the last 5 years. Cyber security experts state that the danger has increased even more with artificial intelligence.
